Doula Services

The goal of all my education and training is geared towards fulfilling my vision of working with women to facilitate empowerment and self-love through knowing and trusting in their own bodies. I choose to focus on the Childbearing years because this is when women are simultaneously at their most powerful and vulnerable. Bringing a child into the world is a unique experience for each mother and her partner. I believe that every birthing couple has the right to be fully educated and supported in their birth choices...and that in the end, the choice is theirs and theirs alone.
As of the time of hire I will be available to you via telephone or e-mail twenty-four hours a day. During our consultation and prenatal visits we will talk about your vision for your birth and will work together to address any questions or concerns you may have. If I have not met your care provider, I am also more than happy to accompany you to one of your prenatal visits, if you would like (having your Doula and your care provider meet prior to your birth can facilitate a better working relationship between them during your birth).
During the birth I will be with you continuously, offering emotional, physical and informational support; I will stay with you until you and your baby are resting comfortably. During our postpartum visit we talk about your birth experience and answer any questions (and/or provide referrals) you have about caring for your newborn.
Overall, I feel that what is most lacking for women in labor is a support system of women who believe in the natural course of labor and delivery. I hope that through my doula work with women, I can provide women with choices and options, so that they can have the birth they desire.
I have also studied related disciplines such as Psychology, Massage, Reiki and Yoga, and am constantly seeking further education in regards to birth options, breastfeeding, postpartum assistance, etc.
I am a doula because I am passionate about the process of birth and the transformation it brings. I have been honored to witness the emotional, psychological and spiritual impact it has on women and families. It is my privilege as a doula to support women and their birth team in that process. My approach to childbirth is based on my belief that women are powerful beings who are often transformed during pregnancy and birth and mothering. That transformation can be magnificent or stunted, depending on the support they are given and the belief they have in themselves and their bodies. I believe in the innate ability of women to give birth, so my desire is simply to facilitate women in the discovery of their abilities, support them in determining and achieving the type of experience they want, and stand witness as they go through the process of becoming mothers.
