Emerging Birth Doula

Do Doulas Replace Medical Staff?

No. Doulas do not replace nurses or other medical staff. I do not perform clinical or medical tasks such as taking blood pressure, monitoring fetal heart rate, vaginal examinations or any other types of clinical care (prenatal or postpartum). I am there to comfort and support the mother and to assist in enhancing communication between the mother and the medical professionals. I will not make decisions for you regarding your birth plan or your birth experience, but I will provide un-biased medical information in order to help you & your partner make the best choices for you and your baby.
